Utilizing Reality Play Therapy to Explore a Child’s Quality World

Helping children discover, understand, and develop healthy ways to meet their wants and needs is key to mental health. This workshop is designed to explore the use of reality play therapy with children.  By combining play therapy materials such as sand tray, puppets, and art with the reality therapy-based quality world technique, play therapists can gain new perspectives for addressing wants, needs, and behaviors through a developmentally appropriate tool.  The workshop is designed to be experiential and to assist play therapists in adding techniques of reality therapy to their play therapy repertoire.

Learning Objectives: After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

1) describe the use of three of play therapy-based materials including sand tray, puppets, and art.

2) identify 3 key concepts of choice theory and reality therapy as a child-based play therapy approach.

3) demonstrate effective integration of play therapy and reality therapy aspects to work with children.
